In Menorca there is a legend of an earless corsair who surrendered to the sea from a cliff so he could not to be captured.
They say that a Moor, survivor of a shipwreck on those coasts, was hidden in a cave on the cliff. His name was Xoroi. He was stealing food from the locals to survive. But no one had ever seen him because he always did it in the shadows of the night.
One day a woman disappeared. Nobody knew what had happened. After a few years they stopped looking for her but they did not forget her. One winter a heavy snow fell. It was snowing all night and when the habitants of the area woke up, they saw footprints on the white blanket that covered the land.
This footprints led them to the cave where Xoroi and the local woman, in love of each other, had formed a family. When they were surprised, they hugged their 3 children to protect them. But Xoroi did not want to be caught and jumped into the sea followed by his eldest son. They were never heard from again.
